Boston at Chi. White Sox Preview Thursday
posted 5 years ago

The 2012 Kentucky Derby Odds is aright around the corner the Kentucky Derby Odds are up right now. the Life is perfect for Philip Humber – on and off the field. Humber left the White Sox on Tuesday to fly back to Chicago to be with his wife for the birth of their child, but is expected to make his start Thursday when the White Sox host the Boston Red Sox. Humber pitched the 21st perfect MLB Picks game in major league history Saturday in a 4-0 victory at Seattle and there will be no lack of confidence – or the adrenaline that comes with becoming a father – when he faces Boston.

Humber, though, will face a resurgent Red Sox team that has rebounded from a five-game losing streak with a sweep at Minnesota in which they scored 24 runs. Boston counters with Felix Doubront, who allowed only one run against the Yankees in his last start. The White Sox finished their road trip 4-2 after a 5-4 loss in 14 innings to Oakland on Wednesday. Boston’s David Ortiz is hitting .424 while Chicago’s Paul Konerko has also started fast at .357. Check out the best Handicappers at the Sports Monitor.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, MLB Network, NESN (Boston), WGN (Chicago)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH Felix Doubront (0-0, 3.94 ERA) vs. LH Philip Humber (1-0, 0.63 ERA)

Doubront allowed four hits in six innings Saturday before the Yankees crushed Boston’s bullpen for seven runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings in a 15-9 loss. The Red Sox had won Doubront’s previous two outings, both five-inning starts. Doubront has 20 strikeouts in 16 innings. He has never faced Chicago. Buy Toronto Blue Jays Tickets

Humber received a phone call from President Barack Obama and a text message from Tim Tebow following his perfect game. He has allowed one run and struck out 16 in 14 1/3 innings in his first two starts of 2012 with a 0.63 WHIP. Humber is 1-1 in two starts with a 5.84 ERA against the Red Sox, whose roster is hitting .239 against him. Humber’s gem was also his first career complete game. Buy Los Angeles Angels Tickets

WALK-OFFS

1. Boston hung on for a 7-6 victory Wednesday after nearly blowing a 7-1 lead. The Red Sox needed six relievers to get the last 11 outs.

2. Center fielder Marlon Byrd, acquired from the Cubs on Saturday, went 4-for-13 in his first three games with Boston.
