Pete Prisco of CBS Sports believes that a Malcom Floyd signing by the New England Patriots "makes too much sense."
However, Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston thinks it's more of a long shot (though still possible). Find an excerpt of his reaction to Prisco's analysis below. The Patriots are NFL Odds favorites to win it all this season.
The Patriots may begin the 2011 NFL Picks season without making any more additions to their corps of skill position players. It's a talented bunch already, after all, and they added some tailbacks in the draft. But one looming question surrounding the team this offseason has been whether they'd hope for a breakout season by wide receiver Brandon Tate or attempt to sign one of the free agents available, many of whom are more accomplished in their NFL careers thus far.
In his latest mailbag, Reiss presented a list of the Pats' incumbent free agents, as well as some free agents from other teams that he considers "possible targets" for New England. Included on that list are wideouts Sidney Rice and Floyd. The Sportsbook Betting Odds think the same.
Reiss isn't saying that the Pats will definitely sign one of the two (it'll take a pretty big contract for either), but adding a promising young WR like Rice or Floyd certainly passes the smell test as either would provide a nice complement to Wes Welker.
