Obviously, Sonnen is still highly marketable and he likely reenters the middleweight discussion near the top of the contender list. He will be keeping a close eye on this weekend UFC 132 Picks matchups. If not an immediate rematch against Anderson Silva, he'll need just one fight to get there. For anybody else, I'd say expect his return bout to be a title eliminator against someone like Brian Stann or Mark Munoz, but Sonnen's ongoing war of words with Wanderlei Silva should make the math pretty easy here for matchmakers. So long as Silva beats Chris Leben at UFC 132 Betting this weekend (granted, not a given), Silva vs. Sonnen is a no-brainer. Maybe even expect a confrontation in the cage on Saturday night.
Now the real stuff: When last we saw Sonnen, he claimed he needed hormone therapy to safely compete in MMA. If that's true, he'll still be on testosterone replacement when he returns, which could make things very interesting for him and for the UFC. It's still unknown if he'll be able to fight in places like California or Nevada. Even if he is, the UFC Odds better be prepared to clearly illustrate what separates Sonnen's situation from that of Marquardt. UFC 132 This weekend and the MMA Odds are up right now.
