Turns out four-star OLB Reggie Northrup of Florida had more than a top three in mind. The Jacksonville prospect committed to Miami on Tuesday. Northrup cited the presence of LB coach Micheal Barrow as a big factor in his decision. "He's a real good guy and I've done some background research on him," Northrup told InsideTheU.com. "He was in the NFL for a long time and he has a lot of accolades. He's that kind of coach that I want to play for and he would help me excel. He would want me to play physical and aggressive, how football is supposed to be played." Check out the latest 2011 Heisman Trophy Odds for the Miami (FL) Hurricanes.
JC Shurburtt of 247Sports.com says that Northrup's commitment is a breakthrough of sorts for the Hurricanes, who usually watch Jacksonville products choose Florida or Florida State. "Jacksonville does produce top level talent every year and their high school football is very competitive," Shurburtt told David Lake of InsideTheU. "It is important for Miami to be a player in Jacksonville and sometimes all it takes is one or two guys to commit and that gets the ball rolling." 2011 British Open Odds .
Linebacker Reggie Northrup's recruitment appears to have a bit of ACC flare with an Atlantic state SEC team on his radar. According to ESPN.com's Corey Long, Northrup has 20 schools on his radar, but has narrowed them down to three.
"I would say Miami, North Carolina and South Carolina are my top three schools," Northrup told Long. "I loved my visit to North Carolina, it's an impressive school and Miami has always been one of my favorite places to go."
Florida State also sounds like an outside possibility for Northrup. Bet on College Football Odds Florida State 2011.
