2011 Belmont Stakes Results
- Ruler On Ice Crashes Belmont Stakes Party - Even those who play online casino games had to check out the 143rd running of the Belmont Stakes, the final jewel in the Triple Crown, and the longest of the three races at 1.5 miles. Everyone was looking forward to this race as a rubber match between Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom and Preakness Stakes Picks champion Shackleford, but it was a 24/1 darkhorse pulled out a huge racebook upset. 2011 Belmont Stakes Contenders
The race began with a bang as Animal Kingdom was bumped by Mucho Macho Man out of the gate, but it was started by Isn’t He Perfect’s jockey Rajiv Maragh, who had ridden Mucho Macho Man in the first two legs of the Triple Crown. Maragh has since been suspended for careless riding for the intentional bump on Mucho Macho Man, but Animal Kingdom was the big loser as he lost a lot of time, while Shackleford was predictably setting the pace, as he had in the first two races. But, players who make NFL betting picks will tell you that football is a 60-minute game and nothing is ever safe, and over a muddy surface, the distance started to wear on the 2011 Preakness Stakes Results winner.
Ruler On Ice, Stay Thirsty and Brilliant pounced on Shackleford to head down the stretch, but eventually Ruler On Ice pulled away for a three-quarter-length win in the “Test of the Champion”. He set the slowest time for a winner in the Belmont Stakes of 2:30.88, but the surface was poor at best after a steady rain pelted Belmont Park. Stay Thirsty , with online horse betting odds of 15/1 and Brilliant Speed at 10/1 rounded out the top three. Nehro came in fourth, while Shackleford eventually finished fifth and Animal Kingdom recovered for a sixth-place finish, and jockey John Velasquez was left to wonder if he could have competed with the leaders, if not for that poor start (it was Velasquez who accuses Maragh of the intentional bump). Shackleford predictably tired after a hot start, and the race was there for Animal Kingdom to take, but he got caught up in an unfortunate situation and did well to come back. 2011 Belmont Stakes Odds
That opened the door for one of the biggest online horse betting upsets in the long history of the oldest Triple Crown race, and it gave jockey Jose Valvida Jr. his second big win at Belmont Park after winning the Breeders’ Cup Mile back in 2001. He did an excellent job to pace Ruler On Ice in terrible conditions, etching another massive win for a darkhorse in the process. The 2011 Belmont Stakes Odds has a history of double-digit underdogs surprising the field, so leading up to the 2012 Belmont, it may be wise to take a risk in your online sportsbook.
