UFC 131 Results - Anti-Climactic End To UFC 131 Leaves Fans Wanting More
posted 5 years ago

UFC 131 Results - Anti-Climactic End To UFC 131 Leaves Fans Wanting More -When it was announced that UFC 131 would not include former UFC Heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, there was a considerable concern among Mixed Martial Arts fans that had already bought their tickets for the event that it wouldn’t live up to expectations. After all, this was the third pay per view event in which a top name was pulled from the card due to injury, and after an underwhelming show at UFC 130 Results  fans in Vancouver didn’t consider the event to have nearly close to the same anticipation without the former WWE star. That notion was only enhanced by the fact that the Canucks were on the verge of clinching their first Stanley Cup history in franchise history, and the entire city was engulfed by the NHL news. In the end, the event ended with another anti-climactic finish, although there was indeed a ton of controversy that took place before the night was over. MMA Odds

Junior Dos Santos made easy work of former No. 1 contender Shane Carwin by working him through three rounds before scoring the unanimous decision win. It wasn’t that the fight was horrible, it was just that there was an expectation that based on the power and history of the two fighters the bout might not go the distance with one of the two scoring a knockout blow. That didn’t happen and fans watched as Dos Santos had his arm raised as the new No. 1 contender for Cain Valasquez’s belt, in perhaps the most obvious online sports betting outcome of the night. The same could not be said about the rest of the card with a couple of controversial decisions by the judges that raised alarm even with UFC president Dana White. Kenny Florian had little trouble with Diego Nunes in a featherweight bout, but before that it was Mark Munoz’s decision win over Demian Maia that caused a stir. Munoz and Maia exchanged several blows and takedowns to the point that it seemed as though it was a pretty even fight, but according to the judges it was Munoz that dominated with another unanimous decision win. Not even White saw it that way and with news that the Vancouver Athletics Commission will investigate into the call is testament to that there was obvious concern that external factors had an effect on the judges decision. The only knockout on the main card came when Dave Herman laid out Jon Olav Einemo, but that wasn’t even the biggest moment after Sam Stout took care of Yves Edwards on the preliminary card. With both fighters exchanging huge blows it was Stout that scored the knockout blow just 3:52 into the opening round, a shot that earned him Knockout of the Night honors. The UFC Picks decided to air it after the main event as part of the Pay Per View broadcast, which was symbolic of where it stood on a disappointing night for most UFC betting Odds fans that were in attendance.
