UFC 131: Lesnar vs. Dos Santos UFC 131 Betting Odds & Picks
posted 5 years ago

UFC, real heavyweights will be stepping in the octagon at UFC 131 in Vancouver in June, when Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos will square off in an eliminator match for the heavyweight title, which is currently held by the injured Cain Velasquez, who battered Lesnar to snag the belt. Lesnar and Dos Santos are coaches on the “Ultimate Fighter” right now, and while Dos Santos’ team is off to a quick start, the tilt between the coaches should be relatively close, at least in your sportsbook.

UFC 131 Odds – June 11th, 10:00 PM ET

Lesnar (5-2) hasn’t fought since Velasquez destroyed him in October in a first-round demolition, and many wondered what he was going to be able to teach the fighters on his team as the Velasquez fight showed that he still had a lot to learn. Velasquez clearly outwrestled Lesnar and Lesnar wasn’t able to escape as he did in the fight against Shane Carwin, who would have won had he not punched himself into fatigue. Lesnar is still learning the nuances of MMA, and he’s trying to improve his striking, which he’ll need in this UFC betting contest.

Dos Santos (12-1) doesn’t have hands as heavy as Carwin, but they’re not pillows or anything, and he has better technique and conditioning, so he won’t run out of gas like Carwin did. He has a brown belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, so he does have some submissions in his arsenal, but Dos Santos has knocked out eight fighters, with another submission attributed to his strikes. In six UFC fights, Dos Santos has won “Knockout of the Night” twice and he broke the orbital bone of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, so you can never underestimate his power.

Your sportsbook will likely say that the UFC 131 Betting odds for this match will be closer than you think, although Dos Santos should definitely be favored by a lot. Lesnar just doesn’t have the all-around game and tries to depend on his ability to wrestle and bully people. That didn’t work against Carwin or Velasquez, and Dos Santos is a smart enough fighter that he’ll be able to avoid those positions. But Lesnar may earn some love from the sportsbooks because he’s a public figure that the casual fan, UFC or not, will recognize from his time in the WWE, so that could improve his odds. UFC 131 Picks However, Dos Santos has more experience and better technique, so he should definitely have the edge in your sports betting online book.
