UFC Picks - Schaub Set To Take On "Cro Cop" At UFC 128 - Some excitement for UFC betting players this weekend in Newark as UFC 128 takes place at the Prudential Center, headlined by a light-heavyweight title fight between Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Jon Jones. There will also be a massive heavyweight matchup on the undercard as Brandon Schaub will take on Mirko Filipovic, better known as “Cro Cop”, and in a heavyweight division that is growing with contenders, a loss could knock them a long way down the ladder.
UFC Betting – Saturday, 10:00 PM ET
Schaub (7-1) won his first six of his first seven fights by knockout, and all seven fights ended in the first round, but he also showed he had stamina when he went the distance in a decision win over Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 121. He also made it the final of the “Ultimate Fighter 10”, when he was knocked out by Roy Nelson, but he has gone on to win three in a row. The former professional football player has lethal power in his striking and if his opponent makes a mistake, it’s good night.
Filipovic (27-8-2-1) will go down as one of the great MMA heavyweights of this era, although it can definitely be argued that his best came before his entrance into the UFC. “Cro Cop” (he was a former policeman in his native Croatia) has lost two of his last four UFC Picks fights, including a knockout due to knees by Frank Mir at UFC 119, but he showed that he could still be dangerous as he submitted Pat Barry at UFC 115. Filipovic’s edge in this bout comes from his MMA experience, and he is also well versed in the arts of boxing and kickboxing.
Schaub comes in as a -295 UFC Odds favorite, and it’s favored at -150 that the fight will go longer than a round and a half, but “Cro Cop” is still as dangerous as they come, and you don’t need a 5dimes review to tell you that. Schaub has to be careful because even though “Cro Cop” is known for his leg kicks, mostly to the head, he is capable of slipping on a submission, and we think he has the edge there. But Schaub has improved a lot in his discipline and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, so he’s not awful on the mat. We’re just not sure how good Filipovic’s chin is anymore, and he has shown that he will take a spill if you get a clean shot on him. Schaub is as powerful as anyone in the heavyweight division, and all it takes is one shot. UFC 128 Picks Go with Brandon Schaub in your sports book.
