Hasselbeck\'s status remains shaky for Sunday
posted 1 year ago

If things weren't bad enough for the injury-cursed Seahawks, Matt Hasselbeck didn't practice again Thursday because of his sore knee. Don't be surprised if he doesn't play Sunday against the Packers. The Seahawks started making plans in case he can't. They signed quarterback Travis Lulay to the practice squad as a precaution. Charlie Frye had been talking all the snaps because backup quarterback Seneca Wallace can't practice because of a calf injury. Hasselbeck explained the injury as a bone bruise but his status for Sunday is very, very shaky. Taylor's return: Defensive end Jason Taylor returned to Redskins' practice Thursday and has an outside chance of playing on Sunday. Taylor has missed two games with calf problems and has been pointing to the game against the Rams for his comeback. Second chances: One interesting sidelight of the Rams-Redskins game -- the Rams recently signed Jason Craft to be a third cornerback. Craft played against the Redskins as a member of the Saints in Week 2 and was burned so bad that New Orleans released him the next day. Expect the Redskins and quarterback Jason Campbell to follow Craft whenever he's on the field. Decision time: Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman went to get a second opinion on what appears to be a sports hernia. Over the past week, he has compared notes with other players who have experienced the condition. They told him to get the operation. Without the operation, he has a chance to return in two weeks, but the injury has only gotten worse since training camp. If he gets the surgery, he will be back in 6-8 weeks. Here comes the judge: Cowboys owner Jerry Jones probably needed to support troubled cornerback Adam Jones because the team needs him if Terence Newman is going to be out. The Cowboys owner said he investigated Jones' fight with a security guard hired to help him. Commissioner Roger Goodell has to decide quickly if the fight is a violation of Jones' probation after his suspension and whether or not he needs to suspend him again. It's anybody's guess what Goodell will do. Jones had little wiggle room for any type of off the field incident.
