The Trail Blazers and Martell Webster decided that surgery was the best course of action with his injured left foot.
The 6-foot-7 small forward had a screw inserted into this fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot on Thursday, to repair a stress fracture, and he is expected to be sidelined for 8 to 10 weeks. Dr. Jay Crary performed the procedure at Southwest Washington Regional Surgery Center in Vancouver, Wash.
The short-handed Trail Blazers received some more -- albeit minor -- bad news Thursday: backup center Joel Przybilla has bronchitis and will not play Friday night against the Atlanta Hawks.Przybilla did not travel with the team to Kansas City, where it will play the Hawks at 5 p.m., and is listed as day to day.
Rudy Fernandez, who suffered a left ankle sprain with 2:48 to play in Wednesday night's loss to Golden State, also did not travel with the team to Kansas City and, like Przybilla, is day to day.
