The Rays have not yet announced their final roster for the American League Championship Series, but manager Joe Maddon said on Thursday that he will use 11 pitchers and 14 position players.
Eric Hinske will be the position player taken off the roster, according to Hinske. Meanwhile, closer Troy Percival, who threw 35 pitches during a simulated outing at Thursday's workout, said he will not be on the roster. Maddon said the roster decisions for the ALCS were every bit as difficult as those he made for the AL Division Series against the White Sox.
"They're all hard," Maddon said. "When you have guys that have played all year with the group and then you have to pick and choose at this time of the year, to say somebody's on and somebody's off, that's not fun, because, again, everybody is responsible for us being at this particular juncture. There's nobody that has not contributed. So when you do this, it's difficult. You still have to choose on what you think is the right thing to do."
